Mayapán was the last great capital of the Maya world in Yucatán, and one of the last to fall. It dominated the peninsula after the decline of Chichen Itza (13th-15th centuries). It was a walled city with thousands of structures, nicknamed “a small-scale Chichen Itza.”
What to see
- Temple of Kukulcán – a pyramid inspired by El Castillo at Chichen Itza, which you can still climb.
