Sayil Archaeological Site: the Great Puuc Palace

Cancun Bay Tours July 15, 2026 sayil-archaeological-site 4 min read

Sayil is another of the great cities on the Puuc Route, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its monumental architecture was built between the late 8th and mid-10th centuries, at the height of the Puuc style.

What to see

  • The Great Palace – an impressive three-tiered structure with dozens of rooms, columns and Chaac masks.
  • El Mirador – a temple with a roof comb.
  • The sacbe and stelae that reveal its organization.

Why it is special

The Great Palace is one of the most elegant Puuc buildings in existence. Sayil is explored at a leisurely pace and pairs with Kabah and Labná on the Puuc Route.

How to visit

It is on the Puuc Route, between Kabah and Labná. Book your tour with Cancun Bay Tours.
