MUSA: the Underwater Art Museum of Cancun and Isla Mujeres

Cancun Bay Tours July 15, 2026 musa-underwater-art-museum-cancun 6 min read

MUSA (the Underwater Art Museum) is one of the most astonishing underwater attractions in the world: over 500 life-size sculptures submerged between Cancun and Isla Mujeres, created by artist Jason deCaires Taylor. Started in 2009, it was born with a beautiful mission: to create artificial reefs that give the natural corals a rest.

What to see

  • Manchones Gallery – at 8 m deep, with 477 sculptures; suitable for diving and snorkeling.
  • Nizuc Gallery – at 4 m, snorkeling only, ideal for the whole family.
  • “The Silent Evolution” – more than 400 human figures that are now home to marine life.

Why it is special

Watching art transform into reef, covered in corals and fish, is a one-of-a-kind experience. Perfect for snorkeling or diving, and a living lesson in marine conservation.

How to visit

Reach it by boat from Cancun or Isla Mujeres. Book your tour with Cancun Bay Tours with pickup at your hotel.
