Bacalar, in southern Quintana Roo, is famous for its Lagoon of Seven Colors: freshwater in shades of turquoise and deep blue, cenotes and a magical-town pace. You can stay on the lagoon (more exclusive, with direct water access) or in town (cheaper and steps from bars and restaurants).
Lagoon-front
- Our Habitas Bacalar – luxury glamping, among the most exclusive in Bacalar.
- Amainah – adults-only, intimate and design-forward, right on the water.
- Boca de Agua – elevated cabins in the jungle, for a nature escape.
- Hotel CasaBakal – palapa bungalows facing the lagoon.
In town
- Casa Hormiga – luxury boutique in a central location.
- Budget hotels and hostels steps from the San Felipe fort and the center.
How to get there
From Cancun Airport it is about 4–4.5 hours by car or bus (ADO). There are also flights to Chetumal (40 min from Bacalar). A transfer or car rental makes getting around easier.
